In just eight editions, this magnificent trail in the heart of the Vosges mid-mountains has become one of the region’s most popular and unmissable events. During the very first edition, 500 runners were already on the starting line at Le Markstein ski resort, located at 1,183 metres above sea level. Since then, the event has continued to grow in popularity and attract more and more participants. In 2025, no fewer than 2,500 trail runners secured their bibs in just two days, and the Trail du Grand Ballon was sold out 101 days before race day.
Relive here the record-breaking 2025 edition

For this ninth edition, we have slightly revised the courses and distances, introducing several improvements. As in previous years, all starts and finishes will take place in Le Markstein, in front of Hotel Wolf.
7 distances, FROM 21 TO 75 km, INCLUDING A BRAND-NEW
62 km
At the finish line of each race, participants can obtain their UTMB Index. The 75 km is classified in the 100K category, while the 36 km, 48 km, and the brand-new 62 km qualify for a 50K UTMB Index. All other distances grant a 20K UTMB Index.

Registrations for the 2026 edition will open on October 15, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. The first participants to sign up for each distance will receive a Trail du Grand Ballon 2026 backpack, worth €25, as a free gift.

For this 2026 edition, a maximum of 4000 bibs will be available, spread over the two race days.
